Neeraj Chopra on Sunday, becomes the first Indian athlete to win World
Athletics Championships gold medal during the men’s javelin throw final event in Budapest.
The other two Indian javelin throwers in contention – Kishore Jena and DP Manu qualified for the top-8 positions and finished fifth and sixth respectively.
India’s Neeraj Chopra, is Tokyo 2020 Olympics javelin throw champion, won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon to end India’s 19-year-long wait for a medal at the worlds.
He is only the second Indian to have won individual gold in the Olympics, after shooter Abhinav Bindra, who clinched the gold metal in the 2008 Beijing Games.
