Boka Haram, the islamist terror organisation, was in news as it abducted more than 200 school girls from the town of chibok in north-eastern Nigeria. Official Arabic name means “People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet’s Teachings and Jihad”. Nicknamed Boko Haram, a phrase in the local Hausa language meaning, “Western education is forbidden”. It launched military operations in 2009 to create an Islamic state.
