Saina Nehwal, badminton player, wins the Australian Open Super Series badminton tournament in Sydney. The World No. 8 came from behind to beat China’s Sun Yu 11-21 21-14 21-19 in the thrilling final match to lift the trophy.

Saina Nehwal is the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships in 2008. Her victory at the 2009 Indonesian Open ensured she was the first woman from India to win a Super Series tournament. Nehwal also became thefirst Indian to win an Olympic Games bronze medal in badminton at the 2012 London Olympics. She was conferred theArjuna Award in 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2009 and the Padma Shri in 2010.
