India and the UAE signed cooperation agreements
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India. He had a brief two-hour visit for talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both sides signed agreements.
India signed a $3 billion deal on Monday to buy liquefied natural gas from the United Arab Emirates(UAE).
Both sides also pledged to double, in six years , bilateral trade to $200 billion.
Discussions on a potential UAE partnership for the development of the Special Investment Region in Dholera, Gujarat.
Both sides welcomed the establishment of DP World and First Abu Dhabi Bank branches in GIFT City
Also they pledged to form a strategic defence partnership.
Agreed to deepen cooperation in space sector.
Both sides decided to strengthen collaboration in science and technology and innovatio. Especially in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
President Sheikh Mohammed expressed support for the AI Impact Summit to be hosted in India in February 2026.
The UAE is India’s third largest trading partner. Both countries has the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Local Currency Settlement (LCS) system, and the Bilateral Investment Treaty.
India Past visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visited, Feb 2024, to the United Arab Emirates.
During one-on-one and delegation-level talks both countries concluded a bilateral investment agreement and also signed a framework agreement on the India-Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Also signed cooperation agreements in electric interconnectivity, digital infrastructure projects and financial connectivity.
Also signed an agreement to link India’s Unified Payments Interface(UPI) with the United Arab Emirates AANI instant payments platform. The same was also done for India’s RuPay cards with the UAE’s JAYWAN card, which was based on RuPay’s technology stack.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate BAPS Mandir in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
