INDIA BAG GOLD, BRONZE IN MEN’S HIGH JUMP IN PARALYMPICS

Thangavelu Mariyappan, the first Indian to win a gold medal in the high jump event in Paralympics, of Tamil Nadu and Varun Singh Bhati of Noida — scripted history, winning the gold and bronze medals respectively in the men’s high jump T-42 event at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. At the 2012 Paralympics, HN Girisha became the first Indian high-jumper to win a medal.
T-42 is a disability sport classification for differently-abled track and field athletes with single ‘above the knee’ amputations or a disability that is comparable.
