Neeraj Chopra creates history, wins India’s first silver medal
India’s Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics javelin throw champion, won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon to end India’s 19-year-long wait for a medal at the worlds.
He is only the second Indian to have won individual gold in the Olympics, after shooter Abhinav Bindra, who clinched the gold metal in the 2008 Beijing Games.
This was India’s second medal at the world championships and the first podium finish since long jumper Anju Bobby George won India’s maiden medal, a bronze, at Paris in 2003.
