MeitY enables map services in UMANG app
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has taken a number of initiatives to ease the lives of citizens by facilitating the online delivery of Government services. MeitY has enabled map services in the “UMANG App” through an MOU with MapmyIndia to further strengthen the Digital India Program’s activities keeping in mind the concept of Aatmanirbhar Bharat; citizens will be able to find government services near them, such as mandis, blood banks, and more, at the touch of a button.
People will be able to see these on MapmyIndia’s most comprehensive and interactive street and village level maps of India; can see the driving distance, obtain directions, and turn-by-turn audio and visual assistance to places, including traffic and road safety warnings during navigation
Through MapmyIndia, the UMANG app has already begun to provide map functionality in the following services:
Mera Ration – Users may find and travel to the ‘nearest fair price stores’
eNAM – The ‘mandi near me’ feature, available through UMANG, will assist users in locating and navigating to local mandis shown on a map.
Damini – The ‘damini lightning notifications’ service gives users an alert and visual of local regions where lightning has hit in the past few minutes. On the map display, this alert mechanism shows the likelihood of lightning strikes.
To make the map even more useful to residents, it will be made available via a number of new services in the near future, including:
ESIC – Users may browse ESIC centres such as hospitals and dispensaries using the map view.
Indian Oil – Service will be made available to identify nearby gas station retailers and distributors, as well as fuel filling stations.
NHAI– While traveling, users may access toll plazas and toll pricing information.
NCRB– On the map, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) will display the data related to nearby police stations.
GSPMY- Users can utilise the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Meri Sadak) to report damaged roads (under GSPMY) by choosing the route on the MapmyIndia platform.
