India supported a draft resolution in favor of Palestine at the Human Rights Council

On Friday, India voted in support of a draft resolution at the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council, which reiterated the Palestinian people’s “inalienable right” to self-determination and their right to establish an independent State .

The resolution also reiterated its endorsement of the two-state solution, envisioning Palestine and Israel coexisting peacefully and securely.

Only two countries, The United States and Paraguay, opposed the resolution, while Albania, Argentina, and Cameroon abstained.

The Resolution urged Israel, referred to as “the occupying Power,” to promptly cease its occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and to rectify any obstacles to the political independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Palestine.
