Faustin-Archange Touadéra: Central African Republic’s New President

Faustin-Archange Touadéra took the oath of office in the capital, Bangui. The swearing-in ushers in the country’s first elected leader since Muslim rebels overthrew Francois Bozize’s government more than three years ago.

The Central African Republic (CAR),an African continent country, has been unstable since its independence from France in 1960. It is rich in diamonds, gold, oil and uranium but has one of the world’s poorest populations .It was plunged into turmoil in 2013 when Muslim rebels from the Seleka umbrella group seized power in the majority Christian country. A band of mostly Christian militias, called the anti-balaka, rose up to counter the Seleka. The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It is bordered by Chad to the north, Sudan to the northeast, South Sudan to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo to the south and Cameroon to the west.
                         Africa is the second most populous continent and also world’s second largest continent. The Sahara is the largest desert in the world and is bigger than the continental USA. The Nile River is the longest river in the world with a total length of 6,650 kilometres.
