Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), mentioned on Friday that the ongoing El Niño conditions are expected to transition to a ‘neutral’ phase before the onset of the monsoon season (June-September).

         Mohapatra noted, “El Niño is anticipated to persist throughout the summer months until May, after which it is expected to subside at the commencement of the monsoon season.” Additionally, he highlighted that La Niña conditions, which typically correlate with adequate monsoon rainfall, are likely to emerge during the latter half of the monsoon season (June-September).
