Civil Registration System report by the Registrar General: Basics Explained
The Registrar General published the Civil Registration System (CRS) report 2020.
- As per the report 81.16 lakh deaths were registered in the country in 2020, about six percent higher than the previous year’s number.
- While the number of registered births in 2020 had declined from 2.48 crore in 2019 to 2.42 crore, the death registrations had increased from 76.41 lakh in 2019 to 81.16 lakh now.
- The report shows Sex Ratio at Birth (number of girls born per 1,000 boys) is the highest for Ladakh (1,104), followed by Arunachal Pradesh (1,011), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (984), and Tripura (974).
- Only two states with below-900 SRB are Manipur (880) and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (898).
