Centre notifies rules for Citizenship (Amendment) Act

The Union Home Ministry issued the official regulations for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on Monday, more than four years after Parliament passed the law. The law aims to expedite the citizenship procedures for non-Muslim individuals who came to India from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014. Officials said the process for eligible people to submit their applications for Indian citizenship under the law will be online.

The CAA was passed by the Parliament in 2019.
