India, a maiden appearance in the final of the prestigious 36th Hero Champions Trophy Hockey tournament against formidable Australia, had to settle for silver in the hockey Champions Trophy after losing to Australia in the final. Both teams were goalless after regular time and Australia outscored India 3-1 in the shoot-outs.
India’s only podium finish until now was a bronze medal won way back in 1982 at Amsterdam. Germany and Britain are third and fourth with a win and three draws each, ahead of Belgium and South Korea.
