Neeraj Chopra wins silver in Javelin and Bronze in Hockey

Neeraj Chopra fell short of defending his gold from Tokyo but still clinched a silver – India’s first of the 2024 Games. He is the fourth Indian ever to win multiple Olympic medals- in individual sport.

Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian athlete to win World Athletics Championships gold medal during the men’s javelin throw final event in Budapest.

He became only the fifth athlete to win two medals at the Games after Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker. He is also the third athlete besides Sushil and Sindhu to win medals at two separate Summer Games. The first to claim back-to-back medals in a track and field event at the Games.

is also Tokyo 2020 Olympics javelin throw champion, won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022.

            He is only the second Indian to have won individual gold in the Olympics. After shooter Abhinav Bindra, who clinched the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Games.

Neeraj Chopra’s best throw is 89.94m, achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden on June 30, 2022.

The previous three national records — 89.30m at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, 88.07m at the 2021 Indian Grand Prix 3 in Patiala and 88.06m at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta — also belonged to Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj only the fifth man in Olympic history to defend the javelin title.

HOCKEY

The Indian men’s hockey team beat Spain 2-1 and win the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. India secure a record-extending 13th medal in hockey at the Olympics and the second bronze in successive editions.

In Olympic history,In Hockey, India won eight gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
