SPAIN ARE THE FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS
Spain has won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, defeating England 1-0 in the final game. Spain’s Olga Carmona secured the first goal of the game.
England(ENG) and Spain(ESP) were going head-to-head in the final of the Women’s World Cup on Sunday. ESP and ENG are playing their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup final. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 was co hosted by Australia & New Zealand.
A win for either team will also make them only the second nation to clinch both the men’s and the women’s World Cups after Germany.
FACTS AND FIGURES
For the first time, teams from all six Confederations won a match at the tournament. New Zealand became the first team from Oceania to register a victory, while the Philippines, Zambia, Portugal, Jamaica, South Africa, and Morocco also got their first win.
Africa’s representatives are breaking all kinds of records. Three teams have reached the Round of 16. Nigeria became the first African nation to complete their group unbeaten, while Morocco is the first African team to win two successive matches and keep clean sheets in successive matches.
By far the most successful team is the US winning on four different occasions (1991, 1999, 2015, 2019). Germany has won twice (2003, 2007), Japan once (2011) and Norway once (1995).
