Indian doubles pair Satwik and Chirag claimed Indonesia Open badminton tournament
Indian doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty claimed the Indonesia Open title, take down the reigning world champions from Malaysia, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. THEY become the first Indians to win a BWF Super 1000 event in their men’s doubles final match at Indonesia Open badminton tournament at Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Prakash Padukone is one of the greatest Indian badminton players. In 1980, he became the first Indian to win the men’s singles All England Championship. He was also India’s first Commonwealth Games gold medallist in badminton, winning the men’s singles event in 1978. The ace shuttler also holds several other accolades, including a bronze at the 1983 World Badminton Championships and a gold in the 1981 World Cup in Singapore.
Pullela Gopichand became the second Indian after the former to win the prestigious championship in 2001. Gopichand won the Indian National Badminton Championships for five consecutive years (1996-2000).
In 2015, Srikanth Kidambi became the first Indian player (men’s) to win gold at the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold. He’s the only Indian men’s shuttler since Prakash Padukone to be ranked top.
Saina Nehwal became the first Indian badminton player to win a medal at Olympics, in 2012. In 2015, Saina became the world number one after several top-notch performances. She was the second Indian after Prakash Padukone to achieve this feat.
In 2019, PV Sindhu became the first Indian to win the Badminton World Championships since its inception in 1977.
