Koneru Humpy won the 2024 FIDE Women’s World Rapid Championship. It is her second World Rapid Championship title. Koneru Humpy is the only Indian to achieve this incredible feat. In the 2019 edition she grabbed her first gold medal. Only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to win the world rapid crown.

Koneru Humpy is now tied with Ju Wenjun. As the only players to have won the Women’s World Rapid title twice.

The Grand Master title in chess is the highest that a player can achieve. Once earned, the title is held for life. A player must have a performance rating of 2,600 or higher in a FIDE tournament that has nine rounds. And against several opponents from federations or countries other than the one to which the player belongs. And those opponents must be titled themselves.

 The highest ever rating by any chess player: Magnus Carlsen had achieved 2882 in 2014.

Gukesh Dommaraju or Gukesh D is the youngest-ever Indian player to become a Grandmaster. He is also the youngest player in the world to beat World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

Abhimanyu Mishra, an American chess prodigy, is currently the youngest person to become the Chess Grandmaster. He was rewarded the title of Grandmaster on June 30 2021. At the age of 12 years, 4 months, and 25 days.

Viswanathan Anand: He is considered the best Indian chess player. A former five-time World Chess Champion. He became the first grandmaster from India in 1988. And is one of only fourteen players who have surpassed a FIDE rating of 2800.

                           He has won the FIDE world championship five times in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012. Awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1991-92. The first sportsperson to receive India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan.

Humpy Koneru is one of the most famous Indian Chess Player. She won the FIDE Women’s rapid chess championship in 2019. Humpy became the second female player, after Polgár, to exceed the 2600 Elo rating mark.

Pentala Harikrishna from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, became the youngest Grandmaster from Indian in 2001 a record now held by Gukesh D. He boasts several other chess victories, such as the World Junior Championship in 2004 and the Asian Individual Championship in 2011. He has also represented India seven times between 2000 and 2012 at the Chess Olympiads.

Vidit Santosh Gujrathi

Born in Nashik, Maharashtra, Vidit Gujrathi was the first Indian to have won the U-14 World Youth Chess Championship in 2008, gaining the title of an International Master. He won his first G.M. norm in the U-20 category in 2011 at the World Youth Chess Championship.

Bhaskaran Adhiban

Bhaskaran Adhiban, born in Tamil Nadu, gained the limelight in 2007 when he won the U-16 Asian Championship, Tashkent. In 2008, he won the U-16 World Youth Championship and the 47th Premier National Chess Championship in 2009.

He represented India in 2010 at the Asian Games and bagged a bronze for the country. In 2016, he also won the Tata Steel Challenges tournament three times a tie. Adhiban won the 33rd Reykjavik Open tournament at Iceland in 2018 and became the second Indian to secure the title
