Govt approves PLI scheme for air-conditioners, LED lights

The Cabinet approved a production-linked incentive scheme for air-conditioner and LED light sectors with an outlay of ₹6,238 crore. The PLI scheme for white goods will extend an incentive of 4-6% on incremental sales of goods manufactured in India for a period of five years to companies engaged in manufacturing of ACs and LED lights. The scheme will be implemented across India and won’t be specific to any location, area or segment of population.

The PLI scheme is aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing in the country. It is designed to create complete component ecosystem in India and make India an integral part of the global supply chains. The scheme is expected to attract global investments, generate large scale employment opportunities and enhance exports substantially.

Art 74(1) of Indian Constitution provides that there shall be a Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as its head to aid and advice the President.

Council of Ministers consists of 3 categories of Ministers- Ministers of Cabinet Rank, State Ministers and Deputy ministers.

Article 352 that deals with the proclamation of National Emergency have the word ‘cabinet’ in it for the first time. The Article was inserted in 44th Constitution (Amendment) Act, 1978.

Ministers of Cabinet Rank have the right to attend all the Cabinet Meetings. The cabinet is the smaller body of Council of Ministers.
